I've decided that France is the country to go and live in. I'm not rich but the profit on the current house should get us a renovation project and get us established before having to get a job of some description.
Anybody out there got any / know of any good web sites to look for the house for the future?
Are there any things to watch out for when house hunting that are over and above what you would look for in the UK? Why are some of the houses so damned cheap. Over here even those would sell for a fotune to some greedy DIYer looking for a fast buck.
thanks for the comment on my blog. This is all new to me!
The renovation is going fine considering that when we bought the house the only water coming in was from a single tap in the kitchen.
Most estate agencies are run as franchises so these links are national links. Of course there are also independents but you'll need to search by area.

http://www.orpi.fr/ - we bought through these

http://www.logic-immo.com/ - most towns do a fortnightly magazine of this too.
Also houses can be sold directly via a 'notaire' (solicitor).
Just to warn you French estate agents are completely different to English ones and that doesn't necessarily mean an immrovement.
A lot of really cheap houses are in the country where there is little employment. If you have any more questions just ask!
